The company I’m currently working for full-time encourages us to do a lot of community service. One of the ways I decided to participate this year was by donating supplies to my local teachers. The only problem was that I didn’t know any local teachers because we just moved to a new area recently. What did I do? I asked the internet, of course. I got on my local community page and asked them where da teachers at? To my surprise, there were SO many teachers that were in need of classroom supplies. There were also a lot of first-year teachers which I was so excited to see because, these days, I hear of more and more teachers quitting. One person commented that we wouldn’t have to donate to our local teachers if the schools would just provide the supplies the teacher needed. Well, duh. However, I explained to him that it’s probably not a school problem, it is a local government problem where the local government doesn’t allocate funds appropriately to the schools or it could even stem from the federal government, which is more likely, but since I don’t know for sure – I’m not going to make that claim.
Anyways, I was able to spend about $165 total with tax and send one item each to twenty-five of my local teachers. They were gifts mostly $15 and under because I was trying to reach as many teachers as I could with $150…but when I saw the number I spent a little extra so I could reach a nice number of 25. Thanks to the magic of Amazon, the teachers were able to choose the supplies they needed and post it to a list where I could select what I wanted to buy and send it directly to their preferred address (which are listed anonymously on Amazon of course).
It was awesome! I even got some thank you notes from the teachers! If you’d like to find teachers in your area that need supplies and have an extra $5 or so to spend, check out the list on this website. If you don’t see anyone from your area, I encourage you to ask around to your neighbors or on your local social media group pages. Teachers are so important and the curriculum they are delivering can be made much more effective if they have the right tools at the right time. I know this first-hand being an online educator. Without the right tools, it takes infinitely longer and brings a lot more tears to create and deliver good courses. If you feel so inclined to do something good today and donate to a teacher!
Thanks for reading. Enjoy the day,
